HISTORY

Isobel was born into a large farming family in a village outside Eblar that is too small to appear on most maps. She was born with a strange reddish-pink birthmark on her forehead. Isobel always believed that this mark meant that she was someone special, with a pre-ordained destiny, though whether that is true or not has yet to be seen. Isobel was also born mute, but to compensate her father taught her how to play the pipes, a way of expressing yourself through sound without needing a voice.

When Isobel was 15, she decided to move to Eblar and strikeout on her own, as she was not very useful on the farm and wished for more than just a provincial life. She soon became a regular in the Eblar marketplace, playing songs for money, a favourite of buyers and sellers alike. Her life was not too hard, yet not too easy, and very regular and routine.

However, one night just after she had arrived in Eblar, Isobel ended up lost and alone on the streets. She unfortunately ran into a group of men, who raped her. Isobel was devastated by this for some time, but vowed not to let it make a victim of her, or change how she lives her life. She is however somewhat fearful of being somewhere she doesn't know in the dark, especially if she's by herself.

At 17, Isobel found herself involved in a production of Romeo & Juliet, where she met some fellow performers and they became fast friends. It was at this point that her journal became connected to the so-called "channels" and she excitedly began meeting all the people there. As a result of this, she joined with Lord Kail of Franel and his travelling group in heading home. In Franel, they met up with Kail's sister, Celeste, and her companions. Finally as a massively large group, they travelled towards Emeron, where Isobel and the other performers soon found themselves involved in yet another play, a musical this time.

Though Isobel has very much enjoyed her adventures since receiving her journal, some events have been rather unsettling. While out one day with Fayre, the two women found themselves under attack, something which reminded Isobel of that dark event in her past. New friends also started seperating off from the main group, and then Pearl got injured. All this left Isobel very upset, though she tried not to show how shaken up by it all she really was, with mixed success. With the play in Emeron drawing to a close, Isobel began to wonder what the future would hold for her.

This wondering continued when those when various groups of people began to break away from the Franel group, including some who she considered very good friends. However Isobel decided to stay with Lawrence, Kail, and Celeste, to help them in any way she could. She went with them on their journey to Megam, playing for money to gather funds and offering whatever other support she could. At the same time, she is having to come to grips with a few realities of life, mainly that everyone lies or plays a part sometimes, even her. Her soul-searching continues (though mostly behind her cheerful exteriour) as the Franel group makes its way around Eire, searching for their own answers.

When they traveled to Atsiria, Isobel began to recognize that she also still had some issues related to her rape that she needed to deal with, the first of which was actually allowing herself to tell someone for the first time. After confiding in Fayre and Elden, the two in the group she has always felt closest to, she decided to try and confront her remaining demons head on. She did this by sleeping with Elden, whom she trusts completely. Afterwards, she felt much better about these issues, although she realizes that she will likely always carry them with her somewhat.

PERSONALITY

Isobel is a very caring person. She never likes to see others get hurt, regardless of whether she personally likes them or not. She often will stand up for those who she sees being hurt or picked on, even if the person causing the hurt is a friend.

The one thing Isobel loves most about the journals is that they finally gave her an outlet where she could communicate the same as everyone else. She also loves meeting new people and making new friends. She is also fairly accepting of other people and their differences, even if she personally wouldn't agree with some of their lifestyle choices.

When it came to her rape, Isobel was determined not to become a victim, yet she also did not want to reveal what happened to anyone. She is coming to realize that this was not what she should have done, even though she knows it would have hurt her friends and family greatly if she had told them. However, she still has trouble mentioning it to anyone.

APPEARANCE

Isobel is a very pale girl, with long white hair and an odd birthmark on the center of her forehead. She looks like she could be blown over by the wind, but is in fact stronger than she looks and very fast.

She wears very plain clothes, designed to allow her mobility, though she does prefer festive colours to match the songs she plays.
